TTB to Require Reports and Tax Returns are Current Before Processing Certain Permit Changes

James Niekamp

Policy changes are in the works with TTB, as new leadership means new priorities within the Agency.

Recently, this means that TTB will begin enforcing a long-neglected area of compliance: operations reports and returns.

It is no secret in the industry that many breweries, wineries, and distilleries fail to maintain and file their operations reports with TTB on a timely basis, if at all.

In response, TTB is now requiring that TTB reports and returns be up to date before processing certain permit amendments and applications.

There is no formal directive issued by the Agency quite yet, so for now, this information is based off of informal communications with TTB staff, as well as experience in submitting amendments in recent weeks.

However, industry members should be cognizant of these new policy changes, and should monitor their TTB compliance now rather than later, when an amendment is filed which needs approval quickly.
